Attire: With little money to go around in her family, Mireya has not often had the luxury of dressing in particularly fine clothes. Happy in a simple white cotton dress with leather corset, she prefers to remain understated in her clothing, feeling that too many trinkets and frills do little but to get in the way of her work. Occasionally, she has been known to weave flowers through her hair, but only on special occasions.
When out on the road and in battle, she wears her black armor, adorned with dark fur and feline symbols, a matching set with her staff and arcane focus. Underneath, she dons simple tan trousers and a tunic the color of emerald green with leather boots suited for combat. This look is rather masculine in comparison to her everyday wear, worn much more for protection and utility than show. No matter what her look, however, one item remains — a golden chain from which hangs her mother’s wedding ring, the one trinket she keeps with her always.
With a town guard for a father, a simple seamstress for a mother, and two other siblings with whom to share her family’s meager income, Mireya Fairchild could never be said to have lived a life of luxury. Growing up without the finer things in life — but with all the love she could ever want — taught her early on to be thankful for what she had, value those around her, and make do with that which was free. From early on, she found joy in escaping her cramped home in favor of long walks through the solitude of the forests; other times, she would wander through town, lending a helping hand where she could, often in return for borrowing books or other interesting items to study. Life was not easy, but things were peaceful and the Fairchilds got by as well as could be expected.
Unfortunately, that peace was not to last.
It was shortly after Mireya’s 15th birthday when her mother came down with a high fever out of seemingly nowhere. By the time that Mercer and the children had convinced her that a visit to the town doctor was worth the money, she had worsened drastically, to the point where there was little that was left that could be done. In a matter of a few days, Mireya and her siblings were left without a mother and Mercer without a wife to help him raise his family. Seeing her father struggle with three underage children to support on his own, Mireya found herself stepping into her mother’s shoes, doing what she could to grow up quickly and take as best care of Marcella and Sebastian as she could.
Inspired by the situation with her mother, Mireya began to study medicine with Calbourne Anglehorn in hopes of never letting such tragedy befall her family again. In the meantime, she continued to read voraciously, eventually discovering books detailing the lost art of druidism and magical healing. To her surprise, as magic began to trickle back into the world, the knowledge that she had discovered started to manifest itself in new and strange abilities, which she could only practice in secret for fear of disapproval of the townsfolk and her mentor.
Yet as she has grown in talent, Mireya has found it harder and harder to keep quiet about what she can do. Finding Calbourne’s rejection of magical healing to be a waste and short-sighted, she’s grown frustrated, itching to use her magic in a meaningful way to help those around her.
